Major responsibilities of the Press Office for Texas Governor George W. Bush included creating and maintaining the Internet web site for the Governor's Office. Types of records in this series include photographs, publications, articles, computer disks, CD-ROMs, a program, audio cassettes, videocassettes, memoranda, notes, negatives, slides, proof sheets, news clippings, correspondence, faxes, e-mails, and press releases. Dates range from 1890 to 2000 and undated with the bulk of records dating from 1995 to 2000. The records of the Texas Governor George W. Bush Press Office web site development files are divided into two subseries: web site files and photographs. The subseries "Web site files," 1987 to 2000, contains hard-copy publications (providing background information and ideas for the Governor's Office web site) and a videocassette, audio cassettes, computer disks, and CD-ROMs, dealing with a variety of subjects. Other records in this series are printouts of pages from the Lone Star Leaders and Legislative Information web sites, plus associated correspondence, faxes, e-mails, memoranda, press releases, publications, and photographs. A history of Governor Bush?s web site includes a historical analysis and sample pages from the web site in 1996, 1998, and 2000. Topics covered by the analysis include design, navigation and links, technology, and content. Finally, a group of alphabetical topic files concerns subjects such as criminal justice, disabilities, the Governor?s Mansion, proclamations, and the Women?s Commission, among others. The series "Web site photographs" consists of more than 838 photographs relating to Governor George Bush, events he participated in, and the Governor's Office web site, dating 1890 to 2000 and undated. Most of the photographs in this series are copies of photographs obtained from other repositories or photographs sent to the Governor's Office by participants in the events depicted. Many of the photographs were given a unique ID number by the Press Office staff and grouped into several categories, including family, campaign, inauguration, and web design. These photographs are labeled with an alphanumeric code indicating category, date (when known), and item number. Many of the family history photographs were obtained from the George Bush Presidential Library. One group contains historical photographs for possible use on the Governor's inauguration web site. These photographs are copies obtained from the holdings of the Texas State Preservation Board, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, and the University of Texas Institute of Texan Cultures at San Antonio. Most of the remaining records are unlabeled photographs, negatives, and proof sheets of Governor Bush at various events with constituents and related textual materials.
